No More Debates

The debates are finally over and not a minute too soon, in my opinion. I thought this one was better than the other two in that they finally did actually engage each other and discuss a few issues.

Barack Obama did what he had to do to hang on to the high road. And, McCain did what he had to do to hang on to the low road. By all accounts, Obama won.

I tend to agree with the pundit who declared Joe the Plumber the winner. He said Joe will have an agent by tomorrow and several franchises.

Obama kind of dared McCain to bring up Bill Ayres and McCain took the bait, and threw in a few smarmy remarks about ACORN for good measure. It didn't work out the way McCain thought it would.

And then, McCain seemed to confuse Downs Syndrome with Autism. He didn't cover himself with glory that time, either.

I really thought that McCain looked like a grumpy old coot, with all that blinking and grimacing. He and Sarah must really make a pair, what with her winking and all. But, at least he didn't get up and wander aimlessly around the stage like he did in the last debate.

I'm just so glad there are no more debates. I really don't think they clarify anything, usually, although in this one, they did give their views on a few social issues that they hadn't touched on in the other two debates.

Ready, set, VOTE!

Can I Call You Joe?

Photobucket Look closely. Not that it's all that important, but, where is her wedding ring? But, I digress.

Sneaky Sarah. Somewhere in her script was the quip, "There you go again, Joe..." a la Ronald Reagan. But, no one can accuse her of being condescending or too familiar, when she got his permission to call him Joe. Too bad the ploy didn't go over the way she thought it would. Gentleman Joe kept his cool throughout the debate and unfailingly referred to her as "Governor Palin".

It's a sad day, indeed, when a person can claim victory in a debate where all she did was stay upright, remember her lines and avoid appearing brainlocked.

When is the last time you heard a candidate inform the moderator and her opponent that she wouldn't answer the questions asked if she didn't want to. One wonders, would Jim Lehrer have let her get away with that? Or, would he followed her home, if necessary, asking the question over and over until he got an answer?

For some reason, Gov. Palin seems to think the framers of our Constitution left some wiggle room for the future expansion of the powers of the Vice President. Actually, it seems pretty cut-and-dried to me. The Vice President has one duty in his job description. Preside over the Senate in order to cast a vote if it is necessary to break a tie. Only if the President dies or can't carry out his duties would the duties of the V.P. expand, and at that time, he would have been sworn in as President. Watch your back, John.

Wouldn't you have loved to see John McCain's face when he received the e-mail that Sarah "fired off" scolding him for pulling his campaign out of Michigan? Could she possibly have been questioning the old maverick's judgment? And, why did she have to find out about the pull-out by reading the papers? Is she that unimportant to John McCain? Watch your back, Sarah.

And, what, exactly, was the purpose of all that giggling and winking and aw-shucks folksy talk? Is that the way she thinks she can relate to "her" voters? That, and wearing a flag pin that is three times the size of her opponent's? Is that how she got elected in Alaska? By sounding like she just fell off a potato truck?

Shudder. I'm glad that debate is over. Now, Sarah can sink back into oblivion, giving us only the occasional glimpse of her for the next month, since she has said she won't be appearing on Meet the Press, etc.

By the way, Biden won.

McCain To The Rescue

Don't be fooled. John McCain is suspending his campaign and going to Washington because all of his campaign advisors are already there, lobbying for the banking and mortgage undustries.

He did manage to appear in an interview with Katie Couric before riding off on his white horse to save the country. But, he canceled an appearance on Letterman, which didn't sit too well. Letterman fired back by having Keith Olbermann on in McCain's place, and they sat there and made fun of him.

Hasn't anyone told Senator McCain that we are now well into the 21st Century, with all sorts of technology that can keep him in constant contact with his fellow Senators?

McCain doesn't want to debate Friday night, either. Well, ok, then, send Sarah, since he thinks she's so qualified. I think he's just trying to create a situation where there won't be enough time for the Vice-Presidential debate.

This is the wierdest presidential campaign I've ever seen, and I've seen lots of 'em. If it weren't so disgusting, it would be funny.

Debate? What Debate?

Last night’s debate was more like “The George and Charlie Show.” It was perfectly disgusting, the way both moderators lobbed “gotcha” questions, more of them aimed at Barack Obama than at Hillary Clinton. For the first fifty-five minutes, we were treated to a rehash of the latest non-issues.

Note to Media: The opinions of Obama’s retired minister have been done to death. And, who was that ignorant woman you managed to find who asked Obama why he wouldn’t wear a flag pin? Do you really think that wearing a flag pin would make him more patriotic? I am so tired of watching all those ignoramuses wrapping themselves in the flag in order to make others appear to be something less than “real” Americans.

Charlie, on a more personal note, those glasses don’t make you look any more intelligent, perched there on the end of your nose. They just make you look even more smug and self-satisfied.

George, I kind of think it would be a good idea if you came right out and admitted that you are working, whether paid or unpaid, for the Clinton campaign. Your bias is much too obvious, and since you have set yourself up as someone who should be unbiased, you really ought to start every program on which you appear with this admission.

Frankly, after seeing the latest debate, I think the candidates ought to refuse to debate again on ABC and also refuse to allow last night’s moderators to participate in any future debates. In fact, if I ran ABC, I would have called a meeting early this morning, and fired both of them for their disgraceful behavior.

So there.

The Many Faces of Hillary

Hillary is beginning to get on my nerves. This late in the race, she seems to be trying on different personas. She reminds me of one of our local quick stops that advertises, "We'll treat you so many ways, you're bound to like one of them."

First, in the last debate, she was Lady Bountiful fawning over Obama almost to the point of being condescending. Everyone said, "Awwwwwwwww, how sweet and gracious she is."

A day later, she is standing on a stage with some unnamed guy behind her whose job is to nod his head sagely, while she scolds, "Shame on you Barack Obama!" Everyone said, "Wow, she's like the schoolmarm who is terribly disappointed in her hapless student."

Then, she's shown waving her arms around and weaving a fantasy about how everybody is going to get together, join hands and sing Kumbaya, and peace will break out over the land, nay, all over the world, and everything will be good. Nobody knows what to say about this performance.

And, there stands Obama, looking like someone who is watching a train wreck in slow motion. And, everybody says, "Oooooooooooo, he's unshakeable, so even-tempered!"

So, I can't wait to see tonight's debate. Wonder which Hillary will appear. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see her wringing her hands and opining that the media is being unfair to her.

Stay tuned.
