I know, I haven't blogged in a week, but I just couldn't think of anything to say. I was in a pretty good mood all week, so I couldn't whine and bitch and complain as usual. And, I'll freely admit that I still don't have an idea. But, I'll try.
I can't say that I'm particularly pleased about President Obama's choice of Elena Kagan as his Supreme Court nominee. I'm not particularly disappointed, either. I just don't understand it. I was hoping he would realize that there could be perfectly qualified people outside of Harvard and Yale. And, although I'm not anti-Catholic or anti-Semitic, it seems to me that there would probably be lots of Protestants out there, maybe in the Mid-West, who could qualify. I'm just sayin'.

What in the world are those poor people in Florida, and others along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico going to do? What is BP going to do? What is anyone going to do, besides play the ever-popular blame-game? I can imagine the frustration and helplessness.

Here we go, again. Another interim election, and another purge of incumbents. Bob Bennett cried harder than Jimmy Swaggart when he lost the other day. Maybe we, as voters, are beginning to wise up and start holding our own representatives accountable, instead of blindly re-electing them for years and years. Could it be that we have finally realized that some of our long-time representatives are not actually doing what we sent them to do? We tend to protect our own and condemn the other states' congressmen/women. It's time to face the music and tell our representatives that we are watching them and keeping track of their votes. Then, if they don't straighten up and stop voting to please the lobbyists, we can boot them out and get someone who will keep our interests in mind. It's a lot easier to get rid of a representative who has only served one or two terms than one who has served for thirty.

Heard on the news that Joe Biden's son has had a mild stroke. Maybe it's a good thing he decided not to run for Dad's senate seat. The stroke might have been a lot worse. I hope he has a quick recovery.

It seems that a bulging disc isn't the worst of Tiger Woods' problems. His wife has filed for divorce and gone back to Sweden, apparently. And his "swing coach" has quit. Wonder which one Tiger will miss most.

I asked my son what tea-bagging was, and he replied, " There are just some things a guy won't tell his mom about." So, I Googled it. And, now I know why he didn't want to talk about it.
Sometimes I wish I weren't so curious.

14 And Counting

It has been reported that Elin is consulting a divorce lawyer in California. She is trying to find a way to file there because in California, she can get half of his income. In Florida, she can only get part of it. Then, again, she has that pesky pre-nup to deal with in both states. Her lawyer is 86 years old, so I hope he lives long enough to do her a good job.
All right, I'll shut up.

There's no telling what kind of healthcare bill we'll get out of the Senate, but I wish they'd go ahead and pass it, and give it back to the House. They've made such asses of themselves, I'll be surprised if any of them get re-elected.
I'm still wanting something passed. At this point, anything will be better than nothing, despite what Howard Dean thinks. Because, once it's passed, it can be "tweaked" and added to over time. If nothing is passed, there will be nothing to work with.

And, by the way, in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette letters to the editor yesterday, some woman claimed that her Social Security check was going to be lower by $300.00 and her premiums were going to be raised by some $68.00. Liar, liar, pants on fire. She is also against healthcare reform. Big surprise.
I have been notified that my Social Security check will remain the same and premiums won't be raised. I must be one of the lucky ones.

Rush Limbaugh has announced that he is going to get married again July 4, 2010. Goody for him. Proof that if any sleazy man is rich enough, he can find a wife. Give it a couple of years, and she'll have earned her alimony.

In local news, our Colton's restaurant has managed to get a liquor license in order to serve beer and wine to their diners. This makes the 7th license allowed in our very dry county that is actually awash in alcohol. There is also a concerted effort afoot to place the local option issue on the ballot at the next election.
I am proud to announce that I was instrumental in helping the local Holiday Inn get a liquor license back in the '70s. That Holiday Inn is no longer there, but they were helped immensely by having a lounge for weary travelers who didn't want to have to drive to a local private club to have a drink with their dinners.
It has just never made any sense for this county to be "dry". Less so these days, when we are literally surrounded by "wet" counties and by Missouri, none of them more than a 30 minute drive away. Being dry has never stopped anyone who wanted a drink from getting one.
The times, they are a-changing.
Stay tuned.

News Tidbits
Tiger, Tiger, burning bright,
Who are you sleeping with tonight?
So far, you have your choice of ten,
But, one of them won't be Elin.

Well, I'm shocked, shocked, I say! O.K. I lied. I'm not shocked at all. No wonder he tried so hard to keep his private life private. But, to no avail. Every morning brings a new bimbo eruption. Wonder what it's all going to cost him, and we're still waiting with bated breath to see if there are any little Tiger cubs running around with little toy golf clubs.

Sarah Palin has been in the area in the past week. She was in Springfield, MO, Branson, MO and Fayetteville, AR. I haven't read her book, and I don't plan to. If I want to know anything about it, I can just read the blog of Margaret and Helen. Helen is reviewing the book.
I continue to be amazed at how many people are taken in by Former Governor Palin's lies. She flies in to an area on a borrowed corporate jet, gets off and boards a bus, which she rides a few miles into the town and pulls up at the bookstore or mall where she signs books for two hours. If you want an autographed picture, you'll have to pay for it. She does nothing for free these days. And, people follow just like sheep, believing everything she says.

Do you remember, a few years ago, when there was a rash of break-ins at Buckingham Palace, and the Queen woke up a few mornings to find a stranger in her boudoir - or at least close to it? We got such a big kick out of that. Ho, ho, ha, ha, ha, all that security, and one of her faithful subjects decides to have morning tea with Her Majesty. How could that happen. Ha, ha, ha, ha.
It isn't so funny when people manage to waltz into a State Dinner uninvited in this country, is it?

The members of the Senate want to have it both ways on Healthcare Reform, it seems. They want to pass a bill, but they don't want to give up the million$ of dollar$ they get from the insurance, healthcare and pharmaceutical industries. That's why it's taking so long. So, we'll probably see a bill that's cobbled together with half-measures and that leaves out several million Americans.
Then, it goes back to the House of Representatives, where it is merged, somehow, with their bill and what we finally get will be a fine mess, but it'll be a start. Hope springs eternal.
Stay tuned.
