Feelin' Blue

While I was on hiatus, I have to admit, I got to feelin' a bit pessimistic.  The Republican Convention, what I saw of it, didn't help my mood any.  Here's what I've been thinking about:

On President Obama's Inauguration Night, a bunch of Republicans, including Paul Ryan, met to plan how to win back the Presidency. They came up with a plan to say "no" to every single piece of legislation by the Democrats that came to a vote. That's exactly what has happened. There has been absolutely no cooperation on the part of the GOP, even on bills that were their ideas in the first place. And, all the while, they accused President Obama of refusing to cooperate. It's their "Up is down, down is up" strategy.

And, what frightens me is that they might have convinced enough voters that the slow-moving recovery is all President Obama's fault and the big lie might succeed.

What's worse, I'm afraid that if they do succeed  in getting rid of President Obama, they will also bring us a majority in the Senate and an even larger majority in the House.  This will not only result in doing away with regulations on banks, Wall Street and big business, it will probably result in packing the Federal Courts and the Supreme Court with ultra-conservatives.

After the first few months of the inevitable economic boom that will result from the Republicans loosening their hold and allowing tremendous growth in jobs and the economy, and all the gloating and "See? We were right." celebrating, they will start chipping away at Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare and Health Care.  Then, they'll start deporting immigrants, and their children who were born and raised here.

And, then, folks, we'll be sunk.  When the clueless groups who voted against their own best interests, start whining about their rapidly widening poverty, and they begin to realize that they are paying much higher premiums for Medicare and Part D Prescription plans and the vouchers don't cover their insurance costs, the howling will start.

Then, their children will discover that they won't be able to count on Social Security because it will be at the mercy of the stock markets. And, who will the kids blame?  Mom and Dad, of course, because that's who kids always blame.  And, this time, they'll be partly right.

It's a bleak picture for the America of the future. The people who voe for the Republicans will get exactly what they deserve. The problem is, we'll get what they deserve, too

There's only one way to stop those fears from being realized. Get out the vote. Make sure everyone around you has proper I.D. where necessary and get them registered. Then, offer them a ride to the polls. Then, maybe, just maybe, we can stop the lying Republicans in their tracks.

So, that's what has been bothering me.  But, after the Democratic Convention, I expect to feel much better.

Stay tuned.

You are so right on this (in the sense of correct, of course!). We simply cannot let the Republicans take this election.

It's hard not to be pessimistic Betty. What you say it so true...and very frightening. I watched NONE of the Republican convention. I just couldn't stomach it. I did feel much better when I watched some of the Democratic Convention. I hope to God Obama wins again. Get out and vote everyone....please.

Betty, I was looking for signs on Bill because my sister Helen has been yelling he was sick and I did see it. I watched on CNN and both hands had trimmers. once the right thumb shook so much he seemed to notice and pulled his hand down.

You made me laugh.

And I needed that.

So are you feeling any better yet?

I'm scared, too, Betty but your words gave me a much-needed giggle!

Olga and Joy: In spite of my political bias, this is the first time I have felt that if the Republicans take over all areas, things will really be terrible.

Patsy: I hope he is all right, because he's hitting the campaign trail once again.

Pearl and Kay: Glad you enjoyed it. I can't seem to keep from adding a little humor, even while I try to be deadly serious. It's a curse.

As one old fella use to say to me, Grayquill you hang in there. It will get better. Sure, it might worse before it gets better but it will get better.
