Take This Job.............

By now, everyone has heard about the Jet Blue flight attendant, Steven Slater, who lost his cool when a passenger got out of her seat and started taking things down from the overhead storage unit while the plane was still taxiing. When he asked her to sit back down, she had some choice words for him and allegedly hit him in the head with the pull-down door of the storage unit.

He proceeded to grab the microphone of the plane's intercom and had a few choice words in return for the woman and passengers in general. Then, he grabbed a couple of beers, deployed the emergency escape chute, slid down it, and went home.

The article I read didn't say if he got a standing ovation from the other passengers, but if I had been on that plane, he'd have gotten one from me. I can't count the number of times over the years that I have wanted to quit a job with a grand exit, but chickened out because I really needed that job. But, if I hadn't retired (that is to say, had my job jerked out from under me) the time was rapidly approaching when I might have gone out with a bang, instead of a whimper.

So, good on 'ya, Steven. That's telling 'em! However, excuse my asking, but what are you gonna do now?

Stay tuned.

I've seen some pretty obnoxious behavior in airports and on planes. It's amazing that more flight attendants don't snap.

I hope he doesn't lose his job. You can only take so much before losing your cool. I wish him luck.

We're hearing/seeing some conflicting reports on what happened, so I hope the real story comes out. If that women did what was first reported, I'd say good for Steven!!

I have never understood why people can hardly wait to get their luggage from the overhead bin. They have to stand in the aisles and wait for the door to open anyhow. I have always remained in my seat until the door is open and I get to the carousel before the suitcases start going around. I see those same impatient people waiting along with me.

I don't wonder that more flight attendants don't lose it. I think Steven's error was in discharging the exit ramp. I am still not sure why that endangered anybody, but the claim is that it did. If so, he may be facing time in jail instead of being in the air.

I can remember way back when flying used to be a real adventure. When the attendents were attractive and helpful and the passengers were not treated like cattle. Whatever happened to the "friendly skies" ?

Now, Betty, he will probably write a book about it!

I will be amazed if they give him his job back. In the middle of a huge major recession (read depression), you do not quit a good paying job. Too many people have been out of work for over a year.

He should have just bit the bullet and stayed polite...and definitely NOT deployed the emergency exit.
