I Hate August

It's hot. It's humid. It's boring. It's August. The only good thing I can think of about August is that it's the month when school starts. It doesn't feel as good as it used to, since my kids are grown, but I still get a little thrill when I see the "Back to School" ads.

There's nothing on TV. That is, there is more of nothing than there is the rest of the year. All the talk shows are on vacation, and are showing reruns. Note to talk show executives: Those shows weren't all that interesting the first time around. Why would I want to watch them again?

Congress is on vacation. This means that the Washington media who still have to show up every day are resentful, so they try even harder to stir things up and make things that really aren't news seem like they're important. Like the kerfuffle about the Mosque in New York City. ( Is that the correct way to spell "kerfuffle"? I thought it was "kerfluffle." Oh, never mind.)

Honestly, if the people in New York and various other areas of America are still so upset about 9/11, why haven't they done anything about cleaning up "Ground Zero" and built a proper memorial. It's been 9 years. What are they waiting for?

Dr. Laura Schlessinger has left her radio talk show and is going in search of her First Amendment rights. She hasn't yet figured out that although she has freedom of speech, there are consequences, and she wants to take away other peoples' rights to free speech if they criticize her. Poor thing. I guess we could count this as a good thing for this particular August.

Another good thing, all of the combat troops have left Iraq, at last. Something else President Obama promised to do and he has done it. There are still 50,000 non-combat troops left to continue with training. They are scheduled to leave in 2011.

And, that's about it. Nothing more to say. I'm hot, tired and cranky, but there's no point in taking it out on you.

Stay tuned.

Keep on telling it like it is! I agree with you and hate August every bit as much as you hate it.

I hate August too. Thank God for the library. If I get all my work done, I can still read.

TV is so nothing.

This Dr. Laura stuff just cracks me up. She thinks she's being denied her 1st Amendment rights because people are boycotting her show and asking her sponsors to pull out? First off, she obviously hasn't read that amendment, but more importantly, what a hypocrite! Conservatives love to threaten to boycott but don't like to be boycotted themselves.

The bad part about August in Vermont is zucchini. I laugh when I see it for sale in a grocery store. It's why we lock our cars in summer--so neighbors won't slip it into the back seat while we're not looking.

I am looking forward to fall and the cooler weather. Yes Obama has done it and gotten us out of Iraq. Colo Spgs is a military town so a lot of military are coming home. One war down, one to go :)

stay cool :)

You know until the mosque mess, I didn't realize that ground zero was still just a place for ideas but no action. I am stunned that nothing has been done yet.
The Dr. Laura's of this world make you realize some have not evolved at all.

Linda: I guess I'm in good company in my dislike of August.

The Idiot Speaketh: Hi,and welcome! Thanks for coming by. I love your blog.

Margie: I'm with you. Thanks goodness for the library.

Kell: She's just typical.

Olga: Zucchini, ugh! I could do a whole blog on the subject. In fact, thanks for reminding me.

Looking to the Stars: And, still, he gets no credit for keeping his promise.

Arkansas Patti: They had such big plans for that pile of dirt at first, and then, of course, nobody could agree on what to do. So, there it sits. Shameful.

If they would turn that ground zero over to a conservative capitalist with an idea to line his pockets at the expense of a few liberals - heck something would be built in a jiffy. I think he/she would do pretty good too pulling the coin from those rich liberals as long as he lied about being a rich conservative, heartless money grubbing non-human.
How did I do? Am I sounding liberal yet? I so want to fit in. :)
