Gonna Take Our Country Back

This is perhaps the most idiotic statement I've ever heard. Yet, it is being thrown around by the Tea Party Pretenders as though they actually believe something has been stolen from them. I 'll explain why I call them "Pretenders" in a few minutes.

From whom, exactly, do they intend to take the country back? Did Canada pull a bloodless coup somewhere along the line and nobody told me? Nope. Not Canada. If we had somehow secretly become the United States of Canada, we'd have Universal Healthcare and words like "aboot" and "hoose" and "eh" would be creeping into our speech, at least across the northern tier of the country. We'd be paying much higher taxes, too.

Maybe it was Mexico. Is the Alamo still standing? Si? Ok, so Mexico didn't take over. China? Only if we default on all those loans.

I have given this a lot of thought as while watching those befuddled fuddy-duddys with their illiterate signs and listened to their hate-filled rants, and I think I have figured it out. They don't want to take the country back FROM anyone. They want to take it back TO a time in history that is more appealing to them.

Like the 1950s, for instance. Things were so much simpler for them back then. It was a time when men had all the answers and women and blacks knew their places. Women were consigned to the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant, and blacks were still at the back of the bus, not getting all uppity and running for President.

And, here's another thing. Let's not confuse the Tea Party Pretenders with the Real Tea Party folks, the Tax Day crowd. The Republicans, with the media as their willing foils, would have us believe they are all the same people. No. No. NO. They are two separate groups with two separate agendas. There may be some overlapping of attitudes, but the Tax Day groups are interested in money - keeping it, that is, and not having to pay taxes. And, they're not confused about it.

The original Tea Party name evokes the Boston Tea Party. They are generally more affluent and better educated than the Tea Party Pretenders and they are much better organized and can spell and articulate their feelings without all the cussing. And, they dress better.

The Tea Party Pretenders are the ones who have been making jackasses of themselves by disrupting town hall meetings. They simply co-opted the Tea Party name to confuse the media, and it's working. They're the ones who want to "take our country BACK."

Get it? Got it? Good.

Stay tuned.

Good post! I loved the pic of the Alice in Wonderland tea party. It fits the Tea Party of today :)

Yes, there is a difference.

However, Sarah is getting support from both and frankly, I would not shed a tear if she fell off the planet.

I'm tired of all the garbage from her and Faux News.

This is another excellent post. You write about these situations so well. I'll admit that lately I've thrown the tea baggers in with the tea party folks and it is true there is a clear difference. I'l be forwarding this post around to family and friends. Good work.

Looking to the Stars: Thank you. The Alice in Wonderland just seemed to fit.

Kay: I'm tired of them, too.

Linda: Thanks. We're supposed to lump them together. But, it's important to keep them separate.

The 4th Sister: I forgot all about Russia. But, they have too many problems of their own to take ours on.

Barry and Gawilli: Thank you both.

Most excellent post, and you are right on the money saying they want it all back to the 50's. It is the same here Down Under, "they" all want it back to when people seemed to know their "place"..those tea party peoples think they know it all, but they do not. Spray can of harden up coming their way! I'll post it to them free of charge!!

Well done again. You really know all the weak spots to jab to deflate the windbags. You go girl.

And as we have recently learned, the rich corporations are financing their protests.

The only folks whose taxes will raise are the rich..those making $200,000 or more per year. The rest of us will not have a tax increase.

When Bush gave the rich that big tax break, we lost $400,000,000,000 in taxes...money they would never even miss.

Wonderful post Betty. It all makes sense to me. I'm so completely sick of the 'brewing nothing but trouble' Tea Partiers...the Originals and the Pretenders. And Sarah....she's the worst bag in the bunch.

Great post!

Of course, in the mind of these teabaggers, when liberals protested against Bush, we were told to "love it or leave it!" Now that their preferred candidate does not hold on to the White House, they don't want to "love it or leave it", but prefer to "take their country back" from the clear majority that voted for the current president. Illogical.

Look at the pictures at the links.

It looks like the Palin-haters are not so well dressed either. They are ignorant of the facts (i.e. when were Palin's children ever arrested) and are inciting harm to Sarah Palin and don't know the difference between advise and advice. These befuddled fuddy duddys want to take us back to a time when a woman was not allowed to speak her mind in public. Palin is not running for office, so why are they protesting a private citizen who doesn't affect their lives? There's no diversity in this crowd, either.

There are two sides to every story. Both sides are free to express opinions, and free to assemble. That's what makes our country a great place to live.
