I Won't Run, Don't Ask Me

Senator John Warner has announced that he won't run for re-election.

From all accounts, he has been a pretty good senator. And, you have to admire a guy for being interesting enough to get Elizabeth Taylor to marry him.

Tony Snow

Tony Snow has announced his departure as White House Press Secretary. Mr. Snow is battling cancer, although he says this is not why he is stepping down. He says he needs to make more money. We'll take him at his word, and hope he beats the cancer.

Also, Sen. Larry Craig is resigning from the Senate as of Sept. 30. I was astonished at how quickly the Republicans pushed him over the side. Usually, there are at least a few colleagues who take up for the "offender", but, this time, nobody came to his defense.

Didn't ANYBODY like this guy?

President Bush is in Iraq today (Labor Day). He's checking out a part of the country that has become relatively safe, so he can make a little speech about how the surge is working.

Then, he is going to Australia, for the APAC (Asia Pacific) meetings. I hope someone explained to him what that's all about.

A first in England: A female Beefeater. Up to now, only men have been allowed to be Beefeaters, the guardians of the Tower of London, and the Crown Jewels. A Beefeater must have been in the armed services for 22 years before becoming eligible for this honor.

Legend has it that they are called Beefeaters because when they were first formed, they were paid in beef, veal, etc. No money. "Let them eat beef?"

I hope everyone had a fun Labor Day weekend.

I'm laughing over your comment about John Warner having something interesting enough about him that Taylor would marry him. Hasn't she found lots and lots of men interesting?

And everyone's running away from Larry Craig - the men for fear others will think they might do the same thing he did and the women because they feel sooooooooo sorry for and indignant on behalf of Suzanne Craig.

I hope Tony Snow is not resigning because of his health. I like Tony Snow, even though he has rotten taste in presidents.

Yea for the female Beefeater!

I agree with you, Betty. I hope Tony Snow beats his cancer.

I can understand him needing more that the $168,000 a year he is currently making. If he does get well, he can make more than that in just a few speeches.

The one to watch now is Dana Perino. I don't know how much they will be paying her but I would want a LOT to have to face the press every day and defend Bush's actions and decisions.

As Stan Laurel used to say "A fine mess you've got us in."

Tony Snow quit because he's broke. Apparently $168,000 a year isn't enough to keep him in the manner to which he's he's become accustomed. Hell, if you dropped the 1 from that number, I'd think I'd died and gone to heaven and was living large!

If you ask me, the wrong people are resigning.
