The F*cking Departed

Well, now. This week's f*cking movie was The f*king Departed. It is chock-full of f*king blood, f*cking gore and f*cking bodies flying. Not much f*king sex, but, lots and lots and lots of f*cking language. Get my f*cking drift?

It stars Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson and Mark Wahlberg. And, I was thoroughly confused right from the git-go. Jay watched it with me, and I'm sure he regrets it.

Me: Is that Matt Damon?

Jay: Yes

Me: Well, who was that guy in the last scene?

Jay: Mat Damon

Me: This guy doesn't look like Matt Damon.

Jay: It's Matt Damon

Me: I don't think so. I think it's Leonardo DiCaprio. Isn't he in thie movie, too?

Jay: JUST. WATCH. THE MOVIE!!

See, Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio both play cops, and they looked enough alike to be brothers - to me, anyway. One of them has been assigned to infiltrate a crime family, led by Jack Nicholson. The other one was sent to the police academy by Nicholson so he could become a snitch in the Police Department. I'm not going to say which is which, in case you plan to watch. But, after a little initial confusion, the characters get sorted out, and the movie moves along quickly and smoothly from there.

I'm getting fonder and fonder of Matt Damon, for some reason, even though I suspect that if he couldn't utter that "f" word every other breath in his films, he couldn't talk at all. And, Leonardo DiCaprio! My goodness, he's grown up a lot since that pitiful performance in that pitiful "Titanic". Jack Nocholson is always a joy to watch. It all looks so easy for him.

But, I gotta tell ya'. That particular word really turns me off, and you can believe me when I say I've been know to let fly with a few choice words when I get good and mad - but, not that one. And, it seems to be the only really bad word that was used in the movie. It occurs so often that you get a feeling you're watching a bunch of teenagers throwing it around because it makes them feel manly. Also, hearing it that much kind of immunizes you from the effect of it.

The movie does keep your attention, I'll say that for it.

And, that's all I have to say about that.

I do honestly think they could make some good movies without all the expletatives.

i agree about the f word it makes me sick how the school children use it all the time.

I believe the f word has a good time and place. It can make things colorful. But if used as an adjective, noun, and verb all in the same paragraph? It gets old REAL quick.

Have you seen the Supremacy movies with Damon? I don't remember the language being that bad in those. And they are really good.

You are so funny! My mom would never write anything like this...of course my mom doesn't even know what a blog IS.....nor would she watch a movie with the "f" word in it at all!

Great post.

I love that movie!!!!! I'm a big fan of the F word though. hehe My dad is never please when it slips out of my mouth. I try not to use it at work or around my parents, but other than that, it's free reign. hehe

the f word is used far too much these days and the kids who use it are getting younger too. glad it didn't totally ruin the movie for you

John: If you're reading this, I wanted to tell you that I have been leaving comments on your blogs, but they never show up, for some rason. Any idea why?

Kell: Are referring to the Bourne Identity, et al? No, I haven't seen them, but I probably will one of these days.

About that "f" word. We dont' subscribe to HBO but we've been having a preview week and hence caught the "Sopranos" for the first time.

I don't think one sentence was uttered, by men or women, without it.

Is that what determines drama this day and age??

The word isn't going to go away. In fact, I think it is going to get more and more airplay as the years roll on.

I suggest you start a programme of desensitising yourself to the word by letting it rip from time to time.

Next time you stub a toe, spill your coffee or forget where you've put your keys just say, "Oh F*CK!".

Not only will it help you to not feel so shocked when you hear it from others, it will be fun to watch the kids' jaws drop.

Peggy: It'll take a while before I can say it without stuttering, but I may try it. F-f-f-f-f-oh, shit, I just can't say it!

How nice to know that I'm not the only one to think that Titanic wasn't the movie of the century.

I've become a Mark Wahlberg junkie. But I haven't seen Departed yet. I think it's on my rental list though.

I live with and love a man whose ONLY vocabulary word seems to be the f-nhimer. Every once in a while I stop him during a rant and make fun of him for all his f words.

Sad when flicks have so much swearing in it. I wonder, thye would make millions if they donated a dollar in the swear jar for every swear word uttered in it??

I hate the overuse of that word just as much as I hate the overuse of the word "awesome". Both strike me about the same way.

I really enjoyed The Departed. Yeah, a few too many friggin' "F" words...but loved the acting and the twists and turns of the plot. I happen to be a big fan of most of the stars in that movie; and Leo is putting out some really good stuff lately. I just watched Blood Diamond....he was terrific in that one.

I didn't even notice that New York New York vibrates!

Cool!

I wonder if it's because of the roller coaster?

Betty,
The show is on my list of rentals for the coming weeks. I don't mind a few F***'s in any movie but when every other word is F***, it gets old fast. I have used it and will continue to I am sure, but never more than three times in 60 minutes. LOLOL hugssssssssssssssssss

I came back to see if you had posted another essay, but not so I read all these comments. I read what my Sister said and thought about words kids use like they are nothing and I do believe that when they say ...this sucks or that sucks...is the one that makes me the sickest.

I am ashamed to admit I didn't even notice the swearing. Must be completely desensitized by now.

Shame on me.

L.O.L.!!

That was a pretty good F**king good post.

So, what did you really think of the movie?

Hmmm...I'm not a Matt Damon fan nor a Leonardo fan. I certainly don't enjoy listening to the f-word used in every other sentence. I guess I will skip The Departed.
