Do Not Call List - Useless

Several people have written blogs about the DoNot Call list.  Here's my tale of woe.  It doesn't seem to do any good to sign up.  I keep getting calls, anyway.

Yesterday, I received two calls from a company wanting to sell me a home security system.  The first time, I just hung up.  The second time I listened until I was able to speak to a real live human being.

Her:  "Yadda, yadda, yadda, home security system, yadda, yadda, yadda.  When she finally took a breath, I interrupted her."

Me: "I don't want or need a home security system.  I live in an apartment and we have security."

Her: "You can't be too secure, yadda, yadda, yadda."

Me: "This is the second time you people have called me today. "

Her: "There is more than one security company.  Are you sure the first call was from us?"

Me: "If it wasn't, the other company is operating under your company's name.  You should sue." "Besides, I am on the Do Not Call List."

Her: "Well, there are lots of Do Not Call Lists."

Me: "Give me a break.  And, while you are at it, take me off your company's call list"

And, with that, she hung up on me.  Something I said?

Stay tuned.

Honest to God, I got a call the other day informing me that all the operators were busy, but as a courtesy I was being informed that XYZ would be calling me with a fabulous offer within the next few days. A nuisance call to tell me I could expect another nuisance call? That has got to take the cake. I take the time to report.

It is also fun, when I have a lot of time on my hands or I have been sufficiently annoyed by a spate of calls, to sound interested and engage the caller for as long as I can before saying "no, thanks" and hanging up.

We get one over and over that is offering us $3000 for something or other. We just let the machine answer and time out. I love caller ID and the machine.

I have signed up to 'no call' and it is really 'on call' is what I think. I have gotten so upset at those trying to sell me insurance (always says something about my age) that one day I was yelling into the phone. Larry came in from outside to see what was wrong. The next night got a call from the same company. They have fake numbers too. I guess so you can't just look and see 'the jerks' are calling again.

OK, you have been on vacation and I think you can 'make it 'til December' without taking another rest.

I really miss you when you turn on that sleep mode of yours.

Olga: Well, I love it. A call to tell you to expect a call. That would be worth answering and staying on the line for a real person, just to tell him/her off.

Marlu: Oh, I guess it would be easier to just let the answering machine take the calls, but sometimes I just like to mess with them before I hang up on them.

Sister-Three: Well, I'll try to make it until Christmas. Thank you for the kind words.

Yes, I agree. Those "do not call" lists seem to be of little use and the whole situation can be utterly frustrating. I had a gentleman call just last evening, and when I told him I was not interested he just hung up. Just like that, no "good bye", no "thanks anyway", nada. Just a click. What's wrong with this picture . . .?

I ask for the name and address of the company, as well as contact names and phone number. Rarely get my request out before they hang up!
