House of Cards

Netflix is branching out into original programming, It has bypassed the networks and cable operators and has released an entire 13 episode season at once. The first offering is "House of Cards" starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright.

It is a political drama, with Spacey as Majority Whip, Francis Underwood, the most ruthless politician you have ever seen, who knows every secret in Washington,  and Robin Wright as an equally ruthless business owner, whose goals seem to fall into line with Spacey's.  It's an  example of "I'll scratch your back if you'll scratch mine."  Until their goals clash.  Kevin Spacey does mean and nasty so well, I almost liked his character in spite of it all.  Almost.

Forbes describes House of Cards as a sort of "Tony Soprano meets The West Wing." I thoroughly enjoyed being able to watch several episodes in a sitting, on those long weekends of nothing else to watch.

Netflix is definitely onto something here, and we can expect other outlets to follow suit.  It has to be good for viewers, and cheap at any price.

Stay tuned.

Sounds a little bit too much like the news...I do love Netflix. It is really the only way I watch television anymore. It is great to be able to go through two or three episodes on a rainy afternoon.

I don't know that I've seen Robin Wright since she was in Princess Bride.....I don't do movies much. We haven't tried Netflix yet, but have been thinking about it. You recommend it, huh?

Lo: Spacey is delightfully ruthless in this movie.

Olga: I love Netflix, too. There will be more "made for Netflix" movies, I'm sure. And, they've already started on the next season of House of Cards.

Chlost: I highly recommend Netflix.

Betty,

If you are looking for a subject to write about, may I suggest that you teach us how to use Netflix the way you do?

I have Netflix but all I know how to do is order a film and it comes in the mail. I watch it on my DVD then send the film back.

How do you use it? I'm sure I am not the only one who is Netflix Challenged. Maybe you can help us
learn how to get more out of our subscription. Thanks!

Nancy: OK, I'll give it a try. Check my blog tomorrow night. I'll try to post it then. Thanks for the idea.

We had the original many years ago and 'you might think that but I couldn't possibly comment.'

Brilliant. I bet Kevin Spacey's good too.
