Yes We Did!

Well, it's been quite a week.  President Obama is, thankfully, still President Obama.

I worried all summer, so much so that I reached a point where couldn't even blog about it.  It was a kind of superstitious experience.  I was afraid that if I talked about it, I would somehow jinx the campaign and President Obama wouldn't win.

I kept telling myself that Romney's lies would do him in, and then, I feared that the voting machines in Ohio had somehow been tampered with, when I found out that Tagg and Ann Romney actually owned the company, and that Mitt Romney had kicked in $10 Million so they could buy it. That seemed like a massive conflict of interest,  and made me even more suspicious of Romney's character.

Finally, I just turned it all off.  I stopped watching the news and talk shows  - I didn't even watch the debates after tuning in occasionally during the first one.  Obama's performance in that debate upset me.  In fact, everything that was going on upset me.  So, I read and watched Netflix and reruns of NCIS - anything to get away from the campaign.

Last night was a huge relief.

So, I was surprised to see how many states had passed laws legalizing pot in some amount.  Of course, Arkansas' effort was defeated.  I would have been astonished if it had passed. I'm not sure it was because the people were dead set against it, or because it's just so easy to obtain that we don't need a law legalizing it.

I have some friends who found it growing on their property. They didn't know whether it was planted or if it was just growing wild.  But, they soon got rid of it.

Then, Monday, at about 3:00 p.m., someone pounded on my door and shouted, "The building is on fire!"

That'll get your heart started, let me tell you.  I grabbed my purse and went outside and sat down at the picnic table in front of my apartment.  In a few minutes, I could see black smoke billowing out of the roof.  Then, I discovered that it was raining, so I went back in and got an umbrella and went back outside.  A few minutes later, I realized I was cold, so I went back inside and got a jacket.

Did I even think to grab any valuables, such as my meds, or photos, etc.?  No, I did not. It didn't seem that there was any danger on my end of the building, so I guess I just sat there in a stupor, watching the other tenants carry out boxes of belongings, until the firemen came around and said it was safe to go back inside. It was only later that night that I started kicking myself for not having the sense to gather up at least my important papers.  It was like having an out of body experience.

The initial story was that couple of kids who lived in the upstairs apartment at the opposite end of the building from me  had lit some candles in the bedroom and fallen asleep, and the fire started that way.  The next day, we read in the local paper that evidence of a meth lab had been discovered.  The kids were taken to the pokey, and their bond was set at $100,000.

Today, I relaxed and watched television that was free of disgusting political ads. It was wonderful.

Stay tuned.

Ah Betty, I too was delighted that the president was re-elected. I followed the campaign closely though and watched all the debates.

The speaker of the house has once again reiterated that he will not work to eliminate the tax raise for the wealthy. The man is stubborn and doesn't care if the country drives off the cliff. He would rather be "right" regardless of the consequences.

I hope you had no smoke damage at your place.

Glad nothing was damaged in the fire.
I am sure everyone is thrilled the endless election process is over.
Time to settle down and hope Obama can perform some magic in Washington while the Republicans run around in circles squawking about what do they do now?!

I am glad no damage to your apartment or stuff resulted from that fire.
I do hope the political climate will change for the better and things will get done. Ever the optimist.

Well here I am your favorite conservative. Your post gave me a good laugh - that superstitious bit. Just so you know what ever you did worked - I would suggest you keep it up. I am really sorry to hear about the fire and my heart sunk when I started reading that part. I have had a house fire and some of those old feelings came right back. I am glad you are back in you house.
By the way - The Illuminati is watching you.
Good Post!

Betty! Happy to hear you are well after the fire and hope your apartment was spared. We would miss you. On the presidential elections, I had the same feelings going into the election as you did and am very pleased with the outcome. P.S: I grew up in the River Valley of Arkansas and 'the weed' grows wild and naturally in those mountains and we never thought much about it. Oh, how things have changed.

I'm glad to hear that the fire didn't immediately affect you, but there may be a lingering smoke smell on some of your belingings.

Two MAJOR questions: Why ddn't your smoke alarms go off? Why did the police and the firefighters let you go back into the building???
