What Are They Thinking?

There once was a third-grade boy of my acquaintance, who couldn't wait to get home from school to tell his mama the latest dirty joke he had heard that day. Trouble was, he didn't have any idea why it was funny. And, oh yes, it WAS funny. His mama "got" all of those jokes and had a hard time keeping a straight face because she could see by the boy's expression that he was clueless, although he bent double, holding his tummy, laughing raucously. She tried to be stern with him and explain that what he said really wasn't funny and that only confused him more because all his friends laughed and so did daddy. Traitor.

Another time, this same little boy called his sister a bitch. His mama thought this one would be easy, so she gave him a long explanation about how female dogs were bitches, but Sissy wasn't a dog so she couldn't be a bitch. It became obvious that mama's lecture hadn't gone far enough when,  a little later, she heard the boy addressing the family dog with "Hello, Tippy, you old bitch!"  Sigh.

I've though a lot about that little boy in the past week or so as I've listened to a bunch of old, gray haired cases of arrested development pontificating about contraception and other areas of women's health. It has become abundantly clear that they don't understand the concept and, being men, and Republicans to boot,  they're too stubborn to ask anyone to explain it to them. They desperately need Dr. Oz to give them a crash course in the female reproductive system and the effect of the pill, both as contraception and as treatment of certain female medical conditions. The good doctor will need pictures, charts and words of one syllable, as those men have limited intellects and many are losing their cognitive abilities.

And, then there's Rush Limbaugh, that pathetic excuse for a man, who travels for satisfaction to countries that flourish in the flesh trade and still needs help from Viagra. He's weighing in on the contraception controversy, calling a 30-year-old law student and all of her fellow coeds sluts and prostitutes, thereby managing to enrage an entire nation of women.   He has never let his ignorance of a subject stop him from expressing his opinion, and this time is no exception. What a brainless twit. He has lost four sponsors, at this point, and it can only be hoped that he'll lose the rest of them, because that's the only way Clear Channel will fire him. Maybe.

But, in case they don't, here's another idea:

Update: Saturday, he made what he seemed to think was a "sincere" apology.

Note to Rush: Your so-called apology was too little, too late, like many other things about you, I suspect.

Stay tuned.

Oh how I agree with you. He is great at making money aat other's expense and I hope all his sponsors leave him high and dry. He appeals only to nincompoops anyhow.

Who are his sponsors? So I can boycott them.

I'm quite sure that Rush would not listen to the words of former Sen. Moynihan: "You are entitled to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own facts."

Rush is the poster person for insincerity. No doubt he apologized to appease his advertisers. And he says he did not mean anything personal by his attack - his attacks are always personal.

I guess I have been missing the news...from your blog and Dianne's blog something has really pissed both of you off. BTW-why do you listen to Rush Limbaugh...do you just like being angry? Seems counter productive to me.

Margie: If you go to WWW.boycottrush,.com, you'll see a list of his sponsors.

Olga: Moynahan, now THERE was a good guy. Wish we had some like him in office now.

MerCyn: I don't know how anyone could hear his comments and believe they weren't personal.

Grayquill: I never listen to Rush Limbaugh, but if you have listened to the news for the last week, you couldn't help but hear him blathering on and on. The media kept playing his comments over and over. If you listened to them, you'd understand our anger.

I did know you didn't listen to Limbaugh but I thought it might be my only chance to accuse you of such a thing....I thought I was being pretty smart. "-)

I couldn't agree more Betty. That wasn't an apology...what a disgusting human being he is. He's incapable of sincerely apologizing for any of his actions...it's really shameful.

Grayquill: This is not the time to be smart. It's the time to say, quietly, "There, there, Betty, it'll be all right. Promise." lol

Joy: Actually, it was an excuse, and a poor one at that. Clear Channel says they respect Rush's right to free speech. Too bad they didn't respect that of the Dixie Chicks, when they ordered all their channels to stop playing their music. Hypocrites!

The numbers so far is that he's lost 26 advertisers, and 2 or 3 stations have pulled his show. Not bad.

May Rush die a slow and painful death. (Not literally; I mean on the airwaves).

Kell: I heard tonight that he has lost 40 sponsors. I hope that's correct.

Darlene: I wish his fans would realize what a horrible person he is.
