News Tidbits

Here's a good reason to abolish the anonymous holds that so many in Congress love so much: Republican Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama placed an anonymous hold on 70 appointments. When the media reported on it, it took only two days for him to drop the holds on most of them.

-----

The other day I read a comment that the Republicans in the House and especially in the Senate are "drunk with no power." Good description.

-----

Last Thursday, a man went berserk in Walmart with a baseball bat. While this was far better than going berserk with an AK-47, he was still able to damage 29 flat screen TVs, $422,000 worth. Then he threw down the bat and waited for the police.

-----

Another Republican, Congressman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, wants to do away with Social Security as we know it, and privatize it.

If George W. Bush & Co. had succeeded in privatizing Social Security when they wanted to, most seniors would be paupers now, after the stock market plunged and the economy nearly went belly up.

They need to get over it and start helping instead of hindering.

-----

The media reported a poll that came out Friday that shows strong anti-Washington feeling. No shit, Sherlock! Why do you suppose that is?

-----

The professor who wigged out because she didn't get tenure, and shot up a faculty meeting, killing 3 and injuring several more, has had a close relationship with her trusty firearm for a long time. It has been reported that, years ago, she shot and killed her brother. Maybe the authorities should revisit that case while they are working on the current one. Update: Apparently, she has at least a nodding acquaintance with pipe bombs, too, according to the news. She is suspected of sending one years ago. How did this nut get hired in the first place?

-----

Peta is trying to get the Duggar family's permission to erect a billboard in Northwest Arkansas that reads, "Doggies Multiply Faster Than Duggars." Now, we'll see if the Duggars have a sense of humor. Somehow, I don't think so.

-----

When Patrick Kennedy leaves office, he will leave our government Kennedyless. I don't know how we'll survive. There has been at least one Kennedy in office virtually all of my life - and that's a long, long time.

I'm thinking of giving up blogging for Lent. Maybe, maybe not. In any case, I won't give up reading your blogs and commenting. So.........I'll probably have to give in and blog a few times. You know, I never could keep my mouth shut, and I can't keep my flying fingers still, either.

Stay tuned.

I am sooooooooooooo sick of the whole damn mess called Congress. I am on Social Security and because of their foolish doings, I am living in abject poverty and have to deal with things an old lady shouldn't have to endure.

And yeah, don't quit blogging -- I need your voice.

Kay: I couldn't agree with you more. I'm on Social In-Security, too.

Say it isn't so, Betty. Give up candy, not blogging for Lent. I couldn't do without your witty political pieces. I laugh so hard at your humorous way of making your point. I love your blog so please never stop.

Darlene: I probably won't be able to stop. The Republicans will do something incredibly stupid or Sara Palin will get loose again, and off I'll go on one of my rants. lol.

Love your blog, like Darlene said give up candy not blogging :)

It's hard to believe that we will not have anymore Kennedy's in politics. An era is coming to a close and somehow I feel very old and very sad.

Take care :)

Don't give up blogging, Betty. That's punishing all of us. That's not what Lent is all about.
