Movie Review

Photobucket

A couple of days ago, I watched "Inglourious Basterds", Quinton Tarantino's latest effort. First, I'd like to say that I did not misspell the title. Tarantino did. And, he says he'll never explain why "Inglourious" was spelled that way, but that "Basterds" is just the way the word is pronounced.

Apparently, the movie answered the question, "What if there were two plots to assassinate Nazi Germany's leadership and both plots succeeded?"

Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt), was the leader of a group of Jewish Allied Solders, whose sole raison d'etre was to "kill Nazis", and collect their scalps. I thought that Brad Pitt bore a strong resemblance to Marlon Brando's character in "The Godfather." This may or may not have been on purpose. As a matter of fact, he sounded like a redneck version of Vito Corleone. And, the scar that looked as though it stretched from ear to ear was never explained.

The other plot was planned by a young French Jewish movie house owner bent on avenging her family and others who had been slaughtered by Nazi soldiers. Christopher Waltz played a German Lieutenant who ordered the slaughter. The part was played brilliantly by Waltz, and he may just win an Oscar for it.

"Inglourious Basterds" is the first Quentin Tarantino movie I have ever understood. This worries me.

Stay tuned.

I am on the waiting list for it, mainly for the Pitt factor for I guess it is really gory. I do not hesitate to use the STOP button if it gets too much. Since you didn't mention that aspect, maybe I can watch all the way through.

I've got to start watching more movies. I usually wait for the video store, but recently have been to busy for a lot of things. Time to retire from public service

I don't think I could watch that one.

Thanks, Betty! Loving Brad Pitt, I will want to watch this one. Will watch for it at Redbox, and Quentin can be quite quirky!

I think I can take the gore. I am bothered more by movies that depict real events like D-Day. I cried when I watched those young GI's drown as they were pushed out of the boats too far from shore. It really happened and because I had a classmate who died during that invasion it was painful to watch. Fiction is easier to see because I can accept the fact that it's just a story.

Arkansas Patti: I wouldn't call it particularly gory, although it IS a war film.

NitWit1: I'm all for retirement and watching movies.

kenju: It didn't have any redeeming social value, that's for sure.

MargaretHall: I'm liking Brad Pitt more every time I see him.

Darlene: There's not much gore in this one, and it's definitely fiction. lol

I loved your last comment :)

We watched the movie also, it was not what we were expecting but we thought it was okay though we were sorry we bought it and just didn't watch it on pay for view.

We watched that movie the othere night on pay for view. It was a good movie, but I'll have to admit that Brad Pitt's fake accent put me off. You described it perfectly! I'm glad I saw it, but it is not a movie I'll watch a second time.

Hope you are staying safe. Snow and sleet here. Yuck.

I'm neither a Tarantino nor a Brad Pitt fan so I'll probably skip this one.

Looking to the Stars: I know what you mean. I only buy the movies I think I will want to watch again.

Deanna: We're expecting more snow and sleet Monday. Had some freezing rain yesterday. This is the worst winter we've had in a long time.

Kay: This one was easier to understand than others I've seen. I don't know why I keep torturing myself.

I really enjoyed this movie, although I found it disturbing and gross at times. But then again, that's what Tarantino's movies are like for me. I thought Waltz was amazing and I hope he wins an Oscar.
