When They Fall, They Fall Hard

I'm so embarrassed. And, I'm pissed because, once again, Jay was right in a character assessment. I hate when he does that!

He said all along that John Edwards was a big fake, and we'd all find out before the primaries were over. I said, "No, no, he's a nice southern boy with a nice wife and family who he loves.

Then, it was disclosed that he was messing around with some woman who was involved with his campaign, and Jay said, "See? I was right! Admit it!"

And I said, "No, no. This was just one of those flukey things that sometimes happen to men when they get carried away with their own hype. Elizabeth is a worldly woman. She will understand one slip, and will forgive him. Wait and see." "Snort!" said Jay.

Elizabeth didn't quite forgive and forget. She did stand by him, to a point, though. After all, she was dealing with a terrible disease that was eventually going to be terminal, and must have been distracted with her own problems.

Then, we found out that John kind of fudged the facts a bit about that affair. It wasn't just a one-time thing, and had been going on for a while. Another "I told you so" from Jay. He was beginning to enjoy this a little too much for my taste.

Long after the primaries were over, and John lost not only the race, but his chances for a political appointment, the media kept digging and digging and digging, until I was getting a little ticked at them for carrying it so far. After all, John didn't invent adultery. Hmmmph!

This morning, Jay came in with that little smirk on his face, and I thought, "Uh-oh. I've been wrong about something, yet again." He said, "I don't want to keep rubbing it in (yes, he did), but I just read that John Edwards is under investigation by the Feds for misuse of campaign funds."

That was the last straw. Jay was right. I was wrong. Completely taken in. Flummoxed. Blinded by that smile. My confidence is shaken.

If it turns out Jay was right this time, I don't care if John Edwards IS pretty as a hound dawg. He doesn't have to act like one. We're through.

Stay tuned.

I still don't understand why Elizabeth stood by him. Misplaced love, but love never-the-less I suppose.

He has a sneaky smile and beaty eyes.

In all fairness, if I hadn't constantly been saying what a fraud Edward's was, mom would would admitted to it a lot sooner. She new he was was, she just didn't want to agree with me.

I know she never would have voted for him anyway. ;-)

I'm not defending his actions but keep in mind we all have feet of clay.

I have often said it is especially hard on good looking people. They are tempted a lot more. Who's to say what any of us would have done in his situation.

I still think it is just something a man will do.

I also at one time thought Mr. Edwards was a hero, but he was a dog all along. Elizabeth Edwards, on the other hand, is a woman of great courage and wisdom. Some day in the not so distant future, John Edwards will be the only parent her three children will have. She is doing what she has to do to make that time the best it can be for her children. When you know you will not be there for your children, you do what you have to do for them, your own feelings be damned...

Dogwalkmusings: Elizabeth had enough to cope with, without turning her marriage upside down. I don't blame her.

Queensize Funny Bone: They didn't seem sneaky and beady at the time, but I see it, now. Sigh

Jay: Yes. It IS all your fault. lol

Margie: That's what I kept saying, and I agree that nobody's perfect. Looks as though he will be paying for his errors in judgment.

Patsy: Yep. Men are pigs.

Fleta: You're absolutely right.

Fleta, is right... Elizabeth's only thoughts are with her children. Had she been completely a well woman, my bet is she would have flew the coop when his political game went into the toilet.

What Fleta says. I too was taken in by the handsome face and thought the eyes were more puppy dog than sneaky. The old book and cover problem.

Word Tosser: I'm with you.

Arkansas Patti: I'm just a sucker for a nice smile, I guess.

Hugs for Betty. Don't let it get to you. You aren't the first of us to get taken in by a politician, probably won't be the last. Gold star to Elizebeth, something less for Ol' Hounddog John.

Betty said...

the 4th sister: Well, at least I'm not the only one.

Tincanman: Thanks. I hate to be wrong about someone.

I usually say it is never right to stay together "for the children", but in this case maybe Elizabeth did the right thing. Edwards is exactly what you say - a dog.

Betty,

I have to side with Jay.

I never liked Edwards. Why? I really don't know. Just never liked him.

I agree. I used to think he was wonderful - but no more. I didn't get to see Oprah today, but if what I saw on the news is true - Elizabeth is nuts if she thinks he only did it once. That's what they all say.
