False Outrage

Apparently, the McCain/Palin folks are going to be outraged and insulted about something on a daily basis, in order to keep from talking about the real issues in this Presidential race. They are focused on parsing every word spoken by Barack Obama. Right now, they are busy being offended by his statement, "You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig." According to the McCain camp, this is a statement meant to demean Sarah Palin. Well, THEY made that connection, not Obama.

Do we really have such a short collective memory that we have forgotten Ann Richards, in her speech at the Democratic Convention in 1992, quoting yet another Texas politician as saying, "You can put lipstick on a pig and call it Monique, but it's still a pig." She was referring to the policies of George H.W. Bush. Obama borrowed and edited the statement. He was referring to the policies of John McCain. Not everything has to be about Sarah Palin. If he had intended to insult Palin, he could have made the implication much clearer by leaving the feminine name in it. Duh.

If the Obama campaign needs some zingers for Sarah Palin, I'd be happy to suggest a few. Try these on for size: (I know, I know, I said I wouldn't, but I just can't help myself.)

If Sarah Palin leans any farther to the right, she'll fall off the flat earth she apparently believes in.

Sarah Palin is so far to the right, she makes James Dobson and Pat Robertson look like "Backslidin' Methodists".

Sarah Palin is so far to the right, she makes Obama's Rev. Wright look sane.

Here's another one:

After a week of campaigning with John McCain, Sarah Palin is heading back to Alaska to memorize a new speech.

Ba-Da-Bing!

She will also wave a proud but tearful good-bye (for the cameras, no doubt) to her son, who is being deployed to Iraq this weekend. And, isn't it interesting that three out of our four top candidates have sons who will soon be going to Iraq? Wonder how long it will take for Sara and the Geezer to suggest that their sons are somehow better patriots than Biden's.

How long is it going to take before John McCain realizes that his V.P. choice has overshadowed him? She makes a much better speech than he does, she 's decades younger than he is and certainly much prettier. And, what is with this "Beauty Queen" fetish that McCain seems to have? Maybe he needs to remember that Sarah likes to shoot "wolves" from airplanes.

Well, I guess until the McCain bunch lets Sarah out to answer questions from the entire media, I'll just have to keep on using her as damn good blog-fodder. She's more fun than McCain.

More later.

I heard Chuck Todd on MSNBC say the only major bump that Mondale got in his race against Reagan, that made his campaign think they might have a chance at winning, was when he named Geraldine Ferraro as his VP running mate. We all know that went down in a blaze of self destruction. I'm watching for signs of the same with this one.

Here is Obama's full "pig" quote so the whole thing can be put in context..

“John McCain says he’s about change, too — except for economic policy, health care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy and Karl Rove-style politics. That’s just calling the same thing something different.”

With a laugh, he added: “You can put lipstick on a pig; it’s still a pig. You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change; it’s still going to stink after eight years.”

He didn't mention Palin at all. It's just typical fake outrage aimed at typical rubes who fall for all the typical fake outrage.

Oh and Joe Biden's son is getting ready to be shipped out to Iraq too. So, why isn't Joe speaking at HIS son's deployment ceremony?? Maybe because he doesn't want to politicize it?

Gosh, it's McCain running for President? I thought it was Palin!

Ba-Da-Bing - keep them coming. I need all the chuckles I can muster.

WOW. Don't hold back there, Betty. Let your hatred for Palin fly. LOL.

I do love your passion.

Okay, just to get in the game, I'll stoop to a new low:

If Obama had been referring to Palin, the phrase he used would have been, "You can put lipstick on a prig..."

linda: We can only wish McCain will suffer the same fate as Mondale/Ferraro. I would like to point out, however, that it was Geraldine's husband and his nefarious dealings that sank her campaign. Men. Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.

jay: Oh, they'll try anything to distract from the issues and the media will cooperate, because Issues are boring.

dogwalkmusings: Just about the time I think I've run out of material, something else comes to light and I'm off and running, again.

Hey, Karen: I don't hate Sarah Palin. I'm a Democrat. We aren't into hatred. We're the fun party - we make fun wherever we can.

velvet sacks: See, that's the trouble with most Democrats. They're reluctant to reach a new low, and the Republicans aren't. Look out, though, or Karen will call you a hater. lol

Sarah Palin doesn't believe in Abortion. She also doesn't believe in Gun Control or Sex Education in the schools (How's that working out for your family, Sarah?) nor does she believe in letting the people of Alaska read whichever books they choose to read.

She believes in having her 15 year old pregnant daughter stand on the stage for an hour ,under those hot lights, with a blanket thrown over herself and holding a 15 pound baby. Brutal!

She better go back to Alaska and learn a new speech. The old stump speech was so full of lies, everyone is on to them now. The bridge, The plane, The trooper. All lies!!!!!

You tell 'em, Betty!! I saw Fred Thompson ono the news tonight, saying how that statement and others were the worst slurs that any party has ever thrown out to another, blah, blah, blah, yada, yada.....

Good thing they got an actor to say that, since he could really get dramatic with it! Makes me sick.

I saw on kieth olberman last night 4 clips where McCain had used the lip stick on a pig 4 times in since 2000.
Sarah will know what sorrow is if her son dies in Iraq and if he comes home in one piece he will be changed forever after.

What Nancy said. and I agree

"She believes in having her 15 year old pregnant daughter stand on the stage for an hour ,under those hot lights, with a blanket thrown over herself and holding a 15 pound baby. Brutal!"

The daughter is 17 a minor point since Sara chose to have this poor pregnant girl stand on the stage holding the new baby and the blanket covering her own pregnancy. Not only brutal but just downright tacky for any mother to put her daughter through this. And the poor little baby had no reason to be paraded out at the convention. Oh I forgot. That gesture was to show how much Sara Palin is anti-abortion not just for herself but for the entire country.

I am left wondering if this is the Palin-McCain campaign.

I am a special needs parent and while I am not in a high-profile job, my time and schedule is all about my sons. I also question placing her daughter and baby in the spotlight. As much is it would be great to have "an advocate" for special needs families-she isn't a shining example here.
