The Lege Strikes Again

Just when we thought they couldn't top the "Veggie Protection Law", the Arkansas Legislature has cleared the way for precocious pre-schoolers to marry. Seems the new "marriage law" is worded in a way that will allow even the tiniest tots to marry with parental consent. This will be corrected when they get around to it, but there is still a window of opportunity for the tiny twosomes to get hitched before the corrected law takes effect.

My friend J came for lunch Saturday afternoon, and we had a nice, long visit. We had been out of touch for a while because she is still working, and I am reluctant to get out much when the weather is hot. So, we had a lot to catch up on.

I feel so sorry for the families of the miners in Utah. How frustrating it must be to have hopes raised every time a new hole is dug, only to find nothing.

-----

I love "Opus". I really missed him when he was gone for a while. So, now, I go to the washington Post website every Sunday to read it again. Much to my surprise, the Post pulled today's offering, because they were afraid it might "offend" someone (specifically Muslims), and you know we can't have that!

So, Jay found it for me on Salon.com. Nyah, nyah, nyah! Do you hear that, Washington Post? I saw it, in spite of you! That'll learn ya, dern ya!

I'm not going to go on and on about that poor little girl from the Miss Teen South Carolina pageant. I was just embarrassed for her and her parents and the pageant people and the judges and most of all for the guy who asked that unfortunate question.

It reminded me of the girl, years ago, in the Miss UofA contest, who answered her question, "Well, uh, I'd just like to help get world peace, and such-like." She lost, too.

Speaking of dumb - did you hear about the guy who took a cab to a bank in Springfield, MO over the weekend? He asked the driver to wait for him, went in, robbed the bank and fled in the cab. Of course, he was caught, and the cab driver wasn't injured, because even though the note the robber passed to the bank teller said he was armed, he lied.

Senator John Warner has said he thinks that some troops should be pulled out of Iraq by the first of the year. Don't anybody stand behind him. He'll start back-pedaling any minute, now.

I don't know who I'll finally decide to vote for in our Democratic Primary, whenever it will be, but I'm pretty sure whoever I vote for won't win the nomination. I can't remember a time when the person I voted for actually became the candidate. I don't know why I even bother, but if I don't vote, I'll feel bad about the constant whining and complaining I'll probably do after the election.

The thought of Michael Vick makes me so angry, I could just spit! I don't even know what to say, except I hope there's a special circle in hell for him and all the other people who engage in the abuse of animals.

That's about all I'm thinking about at the moment. It has been said that my mind is like an unmade bed. I have to agree.

As far as Mr Vick is concerned, he has now ruined his quite lucrative career and could very well be facing some jail time. Serves him right!

The Miss Teen South Carolina needs to go back to school and STUDY. Cute will only get a gal so far. . .

I don't know what was behind the legislation about the age of consent to marry . . . Sounds ill thought out.

Betty,

Poor Miss South Carolina. Imagine being a teenager and being on television with millions of people looking at you and having them throw a question at you which is way beyond your ability to answer.

I felt very sorry for her, but I
also agree with Peggy. To quote Judge Judy: "Beauty fades, dumb is forever."

Who I don't feel sorry for is Michael Vick. I hope he goes to jail for a long time and loses his lucrative contract with both the football team and all the sports companies that have signed him to do endorsements for them.

You know, Q of D, you are right! Never thought of that. Of course, they would be in medical school.

Don't they all say they only want to be in the beauty pageants to get enough money to cure cancer?

I just read Jay's blog about that girl in the pageant and now you just mentioned it too. Now I have go back to Jay's and watch the clip even though I'm at work cause I'm just dying to see it now.

Okay, I watched it. ha ha Poor girl - she didn't know what hit her. Mario Lopez was TRYING so hard not to laugh.

One of the guys I work with said today, "That sucks about Michael Vick. He was one of the best players!" I just stared at him in disgust. It's disturbing how many people are more upset about losing a player than the crime Vick did to lose his position.

You know how I love Opus! Our paper printed it on Sunday. Interesting what they think is offensive. Pfft.

I just saw that Miss Teen thing. Boy. How sad is that?

I haven't had a winner in quite awhile either. Maybe I should vote for the one I don't want. Not.

I hope the dog owning judge hands Michael Vick at least two and one half years.

I'm tired of hearing about giving him a second chance. He's already had a number of chances after a long history of stupid acts.

This is just the pinnacle of his petty criminal career. He never learned before he got caught and I don't by his "for the kids" apology.
