Include Me Out

I seem to be slowing down with my blogging, lately. And, from the others I'm reading, several others have, too. Could it be spring fever?

I have a problem. A friend has me on her e-mail list, along with a bunch of other people we used to work with. She diligently forwards to me all the e-mails she receives from them, as well as those from her daughter, resulting in a whole bunch of e-mails I don't want. The people on her list are hard-core ultra conservatives, who just love to get all bent out of shape at anything they perceive as the tiniest bit liberal. And, they appear to have plenty of time on their hands.

I kind of think she gets a kick out of forwarding all this junk to me, but she'd never admit it, and I can't prove it. Anyway, I'm trying to think of a way to ask her to take me off of her e-mail list. It's not as easy as you might think, because she's a bit prickly, and tends to misunderstand what a lot of people say to her. Then, she gets mad and pouts. But, I'll have to think of something, because she sends me at least 10 or 12 a day, and most of them are, in her words, "a reread, but worth repeating". I don't happen to think most e-mails are worth rereading. Certainly not the ones that bash some politician or another, or the ones full of flowry, uplifting messages, illustrated by Thomas Kinkade .

The latest story that stirred the pot was about the new coin that didn't have "In God We Trust" on it. "Pass this on! We can't let this happen! The Democrats have only been in power since January, and already they're taking any reference to God off the coins! What's next? "

I have gotten to the point where I don't even open the e-mails, usually. But, I knew from the subject line on this one that it was going to be a hysterical rant. I was right.

I should have told her to leave me off her list as soon as I found out I was on it. But, I didn't, so now what?????

I wish I had ONLY one friend that forwards all that stuff! I don't open 99% of it either. Maybe it's the ego that goes with blogging. If I get a post done it's about all the time I want to devote to the computer. And even now I'm in a lull because everything seems so repetitious and pointless.

I need a life and spring is a-coming!

I get a lot of stuff too Betty. Some of it I don't mind...others I really can do without. I guess it will come down to whether or not you can tolerate it much longer. I would just be upfront and honest...that you really don't like getting them and you don't want the obligation of having to reply to them....or pass them on. If your "friend" gets huffy about it....there's nothing you can do anyway. Maybe a little more space between the two of you wouldn't be all that bad....at least for you. I'm of the mind that if people get mad at you for just being honest about something...they'll find a way to get pissed if you aren't honest too.

Yes, I am the same. I get all this mail and I just delete it most of the time. I might read the leading post in a subject matter if it is from an emailing/posting group, but I don't have the time to read them all.
I am only posting every 3 days or so on my blog, life is just too busy otherwise. I am also just checking people's blogs every other day now.
Perhaps, you could just email your friend a note, or call her if you have her number, saying there seems to be something wrong with her computer, it keeps on sending you all this mail you have read before. Could she please then correct it? Because you just have so much to do, and reading emails is just a time waster. ...something like that.

go for it Betty and tell her the truth it is the best way round it, if she does take the huff will you be upset?

Well I am sure she knows your politics and like you, I am not sure why she would think you wanted to read all that rhetoric except to get you all riled up.

I am reasonably sure I would probably have to ask her to cease and desist.

Betty, I get the forwarded mail too. And I hate it. Once, I could stand the 'love bush' mail no longer and lambasted the sender. Well, long story short, she cried and now does not like me. But after her poking me each day with the bushy needle, I just exploded on her. So my advice is to not read and delete.

Also, I hate those that say forward this to 10 friends and we will have good luck. I say good grief and delete those too.

At work (a school) it is supposed to be against policy to forward this crap, but gues what, I still get it!

The folks that forward mail are lazy, they hit 'send to everyone in my address book' when they should pick those that might want to and have the time to read the stuff!

Betty, you can delete this if you want. teehee. I just repeated what you said! But we are Betty and Betty.

Of course what you should do is send her reams and reams of materials from the "other" political persuasion. But, it just takes too much energy, doesn't it.

Tell her you don't have time to read it anymore cause you, along with so many others of us, are slowing down on our e-communicating. Tell her you need her help here and to not send it anymore. Of course, if you can't bring yourself to do it, maybe Jay would do it for you. I know you said he has a soft core but maybe he can be a little prickly on your behalf here.

Meanwhile, delete like crazy!

Thanks for all the advice. It doesn't take but a minute to delete, delete, delete. But, I'll figure out a way to stop it, even if it makes her mad.

Good luck, sometimes it is easier to just hit delete. We have an old friend who sends me 6 to 10 jokes a day and I just delete them. Once I did ask him to not send so many and he had to apologize for sending one that was a little off color. I sent it back to him and asked if he really ment to send that to me. But my biggest pet peave are the forwarded things that have everyones name and e-mail still attached at the top. So that means my e-mail address is being sent to all those folks I don't know. At least if I do forward something I delete any infor attached so it is clean and looks like it came only from me. It is so easy. Just highlight all that junk and hit the backspace button and it is gone. Take care. Just hit DELETE

Betty I have had this problem before...I send them this email..."Don't send me anymore of that shit. I hate it!"

This works...

I have a gmail account and report as spam anything that I don't want to receive any more. That's a bit hypocritical, because no one knows their mail are going straight to my spam folder, but it sure does the job ;)

Other than the delete key, you could just block all of hers as "spam" or just say tell her that you love her but there are some things you need to not talk about in your friendship adn politics is one of them. If she's truly a friend she'll stop. I have several friends with the wrong idea of what is good politics and we have chosen to just not talk about it. And that makes our friendship work. We are too important to each other to let something like that get in the way. If she gets too upset, she wasn't worth it.
