Grand Experiment - Day One

Here it is, January 1, 2014, and I'm ready to blog.  Sort of. I think. I hope.

I woke up this morning feeling a bit ornery, a bit feisty, a bit cranky, a bit older and not wiser, but rarin' to go.  My morning ritual is to have a mug of coffee, take my meds, and have a sweet roll or cereal while I read two newspapers.

This morning, there was only one newspaper because the local, almost daily, rag doesn't publish on Christmas, New Year's Day and the Fourth of July, along with not publishing on Sundays and Mondays. It could be worse, I guess.  They could decide not to publish whenever there isn't any local news to report, which would take it back to a weekly.  We still have to rely on gossip, rumors and word of mouth to get any real details. I keep saying I'm going to let my subscription lapse, but then I wouldn't be able to check the front page, the Letters to the Editor, the obituaries, and work the crossword puzzle.

For news, op-ed pieces, comics, the TV guide  and the crossword puzzle,  I read the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. This whole operation takes about an hour, and by then, I'm finished with breakfast and coffee, and I'm ready to check my e-mail and Facebook. The rest of the day is whatever I want to make of it, which usually isn't much.

But, back to feeling ornery. I don't know why I'm feeling cranky, except that my usual TV shows  have been reruns for over a week, now, and I'm ready to see new episodes of NCIS.

So, there you have it.  My first post for the New Year.  Maybe tomorrow will be more interesting, but don't hold your breath.

Stay tuned.

I am down to a newspaper once a week. I find that I miss the puzzles and very little else. Now I read on the computer while I sip my morning coffee.

Ha, our local newspaper is a weekly and takes ten minutes at most to read, unless you really check out all of the want ads.
I mainly read it to make sure my friends are still here and that no one I know is in jail.
Now I read my news on the computer and work crosswords there also. I am one of the reasons newspapers are in peril.

Betty, I've missed you. I totally understand the frustration of trying to write when you feel you have nothing to say, but at least half of my blog posts are proof that it can be done. Not being in the mood to write? That's a whole 'nother hill to climb. Glad you're back here struggling with me.
