Did Anybody See The Tonys?

If you have been reading my blog for a while, you know that I love all the awards shows. I like to see the stars strut their stuff on the red carpet, and to make fun of some of the women's hairdos or their frumpy, skimpy, or just plain unattractive outfits. I like to chuckle at the fawning "hosts" as they gush and simper over their favorite stars. Mostly, I love it when the stars make asses of themselves, such as the time a very sloshed Gary Busey grabbed some female star and gave her a big wet kiss. What fun!

So, you can imagine my disappointment when Cox Cable crapped out last night, after only about 45 minutes of the Tony Awards. On the up side, I did get to see Angela Lansbury accept her 5th Tony Award, and I watched the cast of West Side Story perform. And, I was happy to see Constantine Maroulis perform with the cast of the show he is in, although I can't for the life of me remember its name.

On the down side, I did not get to see the curtain fall (literally) on that country singer. I would have enjoyed that, as long as it didn't kill him. But, I may never find out who it was or what his condition is, now.

Jay tried to call Cox to report the outage, mainly to shut me up. After plowing through the menu he and the automated voice had a little conversation, consisting of giving it the last four digits of my Social Security number, and at one point, slowly intoning, "To. report. an. outage", the voice thanked him and hung up. Jay put the phone back in its station and said, "That went well." But, we still didn't know if there was anyone around to get the message, since it was Sunday night.

Thankfully, I had a book to read. It's hard to read and grumble and whine at the same time, but I seem to have mastered the art.

I did learn one thing through the experience, though. There is not a local number to call listed in the phone book. That's just wrong.

Stay tuned.

I watched the first half off and on. I kept flipping to PBS because they were having a fund raiser and were playing clips from the big band era. Maybe I'm an old foggie, but I far prefer the show tuned from the 40 and 50's over today's music.

Angela Lansbury was so gracious. She was a real class act.

After a few minutes into the second half I decided I would rather read my book so I went to bed.

Like Darlene, I kept flipping back and forth to see Tony Bennett and then Josh Groban on PBS. The show Constantine was in is "Rock of Ages" and I thought he was terrific. I liked him on AI. I was sorry that he didn't win!

I'm like you Betty....I LOVE AWARDS SHOWS!!! I usually watch them all. I didn't watch the Tonys this year though...I worked instead. What an old fuddie-duddie I am. I was tempted to stop and go watch it, but I didn't. I had a lot of catching up to do...and still haven't done it. I hope I didn't miss anything too wonderful. What was up with that outage?

I didn't watch the awards but I know I can count on you to keep me posted :)
Sorry you had a outage. it seems to me that everything we have now has a 1-800 number and I have to go get an old bill to find the number, then its never a person. What a headache!

You can go to You Tube and do a search for Tony Award 2009, where there are several video clips of the musical performances including Rock of Ages with Constantine, and the award presentations.

The worst is when your phone line goes out and you can't find a human to speak with. The robot voice casually mentioned it would be three to four business days before they could check on it (and it was on a Friday). W/o phone OR computer I was completely lost (how did we get so dependent on these things)? I felt like weeping.

LOL, Betty, the scenario was funny, but sad for you..Sorry! I watch the Globe and Oscars, I too like to critic the clothes and hairdos. And, the darned cable company can be a hassel...we lost power and had to reset the "devilish box" again...groan!
Hope this week is better.

Betty,

I laughed out loud when I read that you were sorry you missed the scenery falling on that poor guy's head because you would have enjoyed that.

I didn't see it either for the same reason that Darlene and Judy missed it. PBS had on a terrific show about all the Big bands and it was excellent.

There may be a You Tube of the scenery incident. Believe me when I say I am going to look for it.

I'll let you know if I find it..

I watched it on and off. I love theater, but the Tony's are never my cup of tea. I did see Bret Michaels get conked on the head.

Bret Michaels (rock, not country, btw) broke his nose and had some other scrapes. Yikes! I wasn't sure I had even seen it, but guess I did. The show was OK except that they decided to have numbers from shows that are on tour and chose Legally Blond, Jersey Boys and something else. Why they didn't do numbers from Jerry Herman shows since he won a special lifetime achievement is beyond me. Or they could have had longer clips of the plays--the ones they showed were so short you really didn't get any idea about it.

Darlene & Margie: I love Angela Lansbury - still miss Murder She Wrote. She got a raw deal from the network.

kenju: I though Constantine should have won AI, too. What a pout!

Joy: Never work when you should be playing. lol

Looking to the Stars and Ima Wizer: It's a pain, but what can you do?

Anonymous: Thanks

Deanna: I'm going to see if I can find something about it on Youtube.

Margaret Lavonne Hall: Hello and thanks for the comment.

Nancy: I wish I'd known about the Big Bands show, but there's no guarantee that our PBS station would be carrying it.

Karen: Hi, and Happy Birthday.

Kell: Thanks for the info about Brett Michaels. I only saw a short chip on a news show, and the cowboy hat threw me. Looked country to me. lol
