Old Dog Learns Another New Trick

The other day, Jay decided that I needed to change from Explorer to Firefox. "I think you'll like it much better. It will be faster. I've already switched you over to it." Yipe!

Now, I don't mind a bit of change when it's necessary. It keeps things interesting. But, if I have to relearn a lot of things, it's no fun. So, I approached my computer with some trepidation. I envisioned Jay having to endure a lot of interruptions in order to show me how to do some task for the 10th time, and me having to endure a lot of eye rolling and deep sighs while he (not so) patiently instructed me, once again.

But, I was delighted to find that I seem to have taken to it very easily. And, I love it! It is soooooooo much better than that Microsquash mess. And, faster. I hit a snag every now and then, but I can usually figure out what I'm doing wrong. It doesn't seem to have all the quirks that Explorer had. It does underline in red the words it thinks I have spelled wrong and I know I have spelled correctly, but that's a minor thing.

Now, if only it could give me some ideas for blogs! I seem to have run dry. So, I'm thinking that my blog posts may be few and far between for awhile. But, don't give up on me, and I'll still be reading and commenting on your blogs.

Stay tuned.

I love Firefox and use it 99% of the time now, and I love those red lines, so I can correct my typos.

I use Firefox when I work on the BlogHer site, and I have to say it is great...much faster than Internet Explorer. Maybe I'll switch over on my blog too...it can be pretty slow going at times. Thanks Betty.

Firefox is okay but it doesn't work on some applications I use a lot. I guess I'm stuck with IE. I started on the 'Net 'way back when everything was slow so I tend to be patient.

I love Firefox but I also have IE installed for those applications that prefer it.

Right click the words underlined in red and then select "add to dictionary" After a while, the computer will know . . .

Have fun with Firefox!

I still use both.
One for some things, the other for, well, others.
I own a dinosaur comp, and Firefox is much too slow for some things. Or, the comp is much too slow to keep up with FF, I haven't figured out which yet. I'm way too impatient. I love Google's Chrome, (ridiculously fast) but it won't do some things yet.
If you really need material, how about complaining about HGTV here with me?

Admire your courage trying something "new" on the computer. I'm a weenie who hates to disturb my comfort level. Way to go Betty.

I tried Firefox for 3 months...constant lockups and crashes forced me to give it up. Happy to hear it is working for you. Don't give up on you postings. They are wonderful.

I have to go back and forth between the 2 depending on the app - which would make me crazy but I'm already crazy so I really don't know any better

tell Jay the next time he rolls his eyes his face is gonna freeze that way ;)

does it work when they're 40?

I became a Firefox user about a year ago and have had many fewer problems than before. My Blogpen has also been pretty dry; only 5 posts in all of March. I know words will return one day and then I will be hunkered down in front of the computer for far too many hours. It's tough to have too many things to do as the years continue to roll by. :~D

Kenju, Joy, Kay, Frances, Peggy: Looks as though I'm not the only one satisfied with Firefox.

Tina: I agree with you about H&G. Too many "Sell your house" shows and not enough gardening/landscaping shows. I'll write them, too.

Patti: Do you want me to send Jay to you for a little while? He'll make all kinds of changes for you. lol

Tincanman: I won't give up. I'm just in a bit of a slump right now. Thanks.

Cazzie: Jay forces change on me sometimes. I guess it keeps me young. It's usually a good thing.

Leon: At least you have an excuse for not blogging, you are so busy. I, on the other hand, am just a slug, so my ideas dry up faster.

I'm back again Betty and glad to hear that Jay changed you to Firefox. I love it. But I could sure use Jay to help me find out why my comp. comes to a dead halt after a few hours. I think I have an evil gremlin that wants to quit working.

Betty: On the subject of Firefox; congrats. I switched a while back due to the security issue with Explorer and have never looked back.

As to the blogging. Are you burnt out on all the financial news? Have you had it up to here with CDOs, MBSs, LBOs and MBAs?

If so then contemplate the sweet evening breeze of spring. Add one adult cocktail, your choice, a friend with sufficient wit to keep up with you and enjoy.

I will make it a habit to toast your success on my weekly tributes to Spring, Summer, or whatever.

Hang tough Betty.
