Politics, etc.

But, Hillary? Oh, I just don't know. The race is rapidly sinking into the mire, and now, according to one news report, someone in Hillary's campaign is behind Rev. Wright's recent appearance before the National Press Corps. Denials all around, of course. Woudln't put it past her, though.

So far, Obama has remained cool as a cucumber with everything that has been thrown at him, but I would like to have been a fly on the wall when the good Rev. started appearing on television, with his own agenda. It might be necessary for Obama to show a little anger before long. He got pretty pissed off during that last debate, and couldn't completely hide it.

It has been suggested by some (New Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh I can't believe they have finally said something that I could agree with) that Rev. Wright is simply latching onto an opportunity to have his hate-filled, out-dated opinions heard. He may see himself as another Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson whose time has come. If so, it's time for Obama to distance himself completely and denounce the old bigot. It's one thing to tolerate a few wrong-headed sermons, for the sake of a long-term investment in one's church, and another thing to excuse what's happening, now.

Later: OK, Obama held a press conference in which he finally threw Rev. Wright under the bus. I hope the Rev's fifteen minutes are up. We don't need this kind of distraction in the final weeks of the campaign.

I'm still not counting Hillary out. She's one determined little lady, isn't she?

Did anybody see John McCain's speech in which he talked about how we really NEED to do something about health care?? Seems he has a plan. Note to McCain: You've only been in the Senate since when ? The McKinley Administration? Why haven't you noticed this need before now?

If you watched American Idol tonight, raise your hands? Hello? I wasn't going to watch it, either, then I remembered it was Neil Diamond night. Love that Neil Diamond. I would like to make a suggestion for future programs though, when they are featuring songs written and made famous by people who are now over 50, and asking people under 30 to sing them. For God's sake, sit those babies down and make them listen to the the featured artist's music for no fewer than 6 hours. Then, explain the lyrics to them. Sheesh!

Tonight was almost as bad as listening to them try to figure out Andrew Lloyd Webber last week. David Cook was the only one who actually "got" the music. Poor little Jason's voice has that lower register and with a little effort (practice) could have done justice to the songs he tried. Alas, he either didn't care or he was just plain bored or stoned or something.

No. You just don't want to suggest that this year's crop of Idol hopefuls try to sing songs that have actual lyrics, that should be understood before they can be sung. If the numbers don't lend themselves to the occasional "screech" and mournful "wooooooo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-oo" and "Oooooohhhhh", these kids can't sing them.

Finally, why, oh why is Brooke still hanging in there? Who's she sleeping with? Huh? Huh?

Dancing with the Stars is another show that has, in my opinion, jumped the shark. This week, Shannon (the gawky) and Derek leave the show. Too bad, so sad. Don't let the door hit you in the butt when you go out. Ho Hum.

Stay tuned.

I watch! I watch!!

I totally agree. For me, I'm all about David Cook. That guy is talented and I would love to see him win. I just hope that Archuleta doesn't have the teenage girl voting demographic in his pocket.

Brooke? Is she AI material? I don't think so, but there is a likability about her, and she is talented in her own right. I think when she finds her self and gets hooked up with the right people who can polish her up, she could do something. I can't put my finger on it... maybe I'm just a sucker for someone who is not afraid to show their vulnerability and accept they make mistakes. *shrug*

Guess I don't have to finish watching DWTS on Tivo! Thanks for the info. I agree with Carrie Ann, Shannon might have a beautiful body, but was just so gawky in controlling her lines; she was hard to watch! Well, at least Derek has time to focus on his music. Did you know that he and Mark Ballas have a band? Almost-Amy. I actually like the music too! almost-amydotcom

Betty, I wrote today about Wright; you might find it entertaining. I believe the press is playing the violin while Rome burns -- excuse my very mixed up metaphor.

There is a lot of real news out there but you must wade through mountains of trivia to get to it.

Obama came to my town yesterday and spoke at the High School.

I don't watch Idol but I do watch DWTS and right now I'm enjoying the judges more than the dancers.

I also entertain myself by guessing how many times they will remind us that the show is "live"

Have to go now - I have Rev. Wright locked in the basement until he gives me the checks Hillary cut for him. He's making a lot of loud, gibberish noise from down there and it's upsetting the neighbors.

What a mess this has turned out to be.

It's gotten to the point that I just cringe every morning when we listen to the news. And to think we have to deal with this till November. Oy. The only bright side is that at least it means the end of Commander Coo Coo Bananas.

I am a new viewer of Dancing with the Stars. Didn't like Shannon either. My favourite is Jason.

donna: I can see Brooke as a country singer, and think she'd be pretty good at it. I just think she lasted longer on AI than she should have.

richard: I'd like to see Obama speak, because I'm still ambivalent about both Democratic candidates. Not that I'd ever vote for McCain.

gawilli: You can say that again.

newt: Don't breathe a sigh of relief just yet. The Commander can still do plenty of damage between now and next January.

joy: It was time for Brooke to leave several weeks ago. I didn't hate her, I just didn't think she measured up to the rest of them.

kenju: OK, going to read it, now.

bear naked: Welcome, I'm taking a look at your blog today. Thanks for dropping by.

dianne: Keep that old reprobate in the basement until after the general election, would you?

I watch Idol. If they don't can Jason nest week I will know the show is fixed. Every year they keep one weirdo on until the last minute. Last year it was Sanjiya (SP)? What is Jason's hair about? It looks like long rope material. Grosses me out. Where is Edward Scissorhands when you need him?

I've been such a big fan of Idol since the beginning...but I'm really getting bored with it. I liked Brooke...not so much as a singer, but there is something about her...

As for Hilary and Obama...they just seem to be doing McCain's job for him and I hate to see that.

Betty said...

chancy: I think Jason will be history next week.

susan: Every time we hold national elections, I get pissed off at the Democrats. I will VOTE for the Democratic candidate, but while the primaries are going on, I will tear out my hair and rant and rave at the silliness we bring on ourselves. We never learn.

Betty, Hillary is about to appear on the George Stephanopoulos show (10:00 AM EST) Let's see what she has to say. I will vote for Hillary if she wins the nomination but I'd like Obama to win. I agree with everything you say re politics! :)
