The Mind Wanders

I watched "Casino Royale" yesterday, and enjoyed it. Daniel Craig certainly kept my attention, but I couldn't help but make the same comparison that I always make with 007 movies that don't star Sean Connery. He's no Sean Connery.

There were lots of scenes with him in his neat car, and at one time he had to try to jolt his own heart back to life, but, of course, he broke a wire off of the defibrillator he carried in the glove compartment, and his girlfriend saved the day. He seemed to be a much more fragile type than Sean Connery ever was.

But, his recuperative powers were amazing. In one scene that was extremely painful to watch, he had been captured by the bad guy, and they sat him naked on a chair that had the rattan seat removed. If that wasn't uncomfortable enough, the villain proceeded to question him, and when he wouldn't give him the answer, he had this leather-looking strap with a hard ball on the end of it, and he swung it under the chair - I can't go on. The pain. But, then, just a few days later, maybe only two days, he is not only walking easily, he's able to, ahem, cohabit with the girl friend.

Now, I may be an old lady, but even I know it would probably take months to recover from the kind of injury he had - if ever.

Have you been watching "Dancing With Heather Mills" - er - I mean "Dancing With The Stars"? I missed it last week, but I'm glad I watched it tonight. In case you didn't see it, I'll describe the highlight for you. Heather and her partner were doing the Mambo, or some South American dance that they always do to the strains of a 1950s Top Ten American number, like "Papa Loves Mambo".

Suddenly, Heather gave a big kick and her leg flew high into the air, slowly spinning as it fell, like a cheerleader's baton. It was like watching something in slow motion. Like the trouper she is, Heather caught the leg on her stump, where it clicked into place with specially-made clasps, and she dropped into the splits for a grand exit, hands in the air like a gymnast. The crowd went wild.

OK, Ok, it never happened, but you've been hoping it would, haven't you? Come on, admit it.

Actually, nothing exciting happened - nothing. Maybe next week.

Can't wait until tomorrow night. American Idol! Don't you just live for it? Sanjaya is STILL THERE! I'm expecting Simon's head to explode if he gets to go on to next week's show. Methinks there will be some changes made in the voting next year.

I won'der what kind of excuse the producers will give when Sanjaya is still there about three shows from the end. My guess is they will probably have to have Tanya Harding kneecap him and put him out of commission.

Quality entertainment, that's what I'm all about!

Whoever is not Sean Connery cannot possibly be 007. And that is that, as far as I am concerned ;)

Found a way we are different, Betty, I am not a TV watcher.
It does give you a past time I suppose, but not a very good one.

I really enjoyed Casino Royale. I think Daniel Craig is very good looking and I love poker, so that was a fun movie for me. Your right though - he's no sean connery.

Dancing with the Stars is my FAVORITE! I didn't watch last night's show yet but I Tivo'd it and I can't wait to watch it tonight!

Daniel Craig rocked, i thought. Yeah no S.C., but this is a new image and era for James Bond, seeing as Casino Royale was the first book int he series, so it sets up how he became the emotionless man that he is in the later movies. Loved it!

Damn, I was SO hoping that was true about Heather Mills, can;t stand that woman.

qofd: Glad you're back. Thanks for the birthday wish.

Dave: Sorry to disappoint you.

Betty, you are too hip, too cool, to with-it for me. I've only seen these TV shows in passing by and I haven't tseen the 30-something Daniel Craig at all.

Mmm, Sean Connery. No one will ever top him as 007, but my God, Daniel Craig has some gorgeous legs on him.

Ahem.

For some reason, I'm too distracted to comment on the rest of your post, other than to say Sanjaya has to be on borrowed time and I can't imagine he'll be gracing us with his performances much longer.

Oh, dear....I'll have to check out Casino Royale. I don't know though. Sean Connery IS 007 in my mind and I can't imagine anyone being more sophisticated and cool than he is. As for the TV shows, I don't watch TV....no cable or satellite...not even an antenna. My students tell me I should be a judge for American Idol though. I'm not sure if that is a compliment or what!

By the way, is this a Pay Per Post?

OMG I thought I had just blown it by not tuning in to the Dancing show...I've yet to see it. I overheard some people ranting on how much they hated Heather despite the fact that she was doing well on the show...she had messed with their Beatle! LOL

Me thinks so too Betty....and actually, me hopes so.

Haven't seen Casino Royale, but it has come highly recommended, so I'm sure I will be watching it sometime soon.

arkansas songbird: I don't think you have the requisite nastiness to be a judge on Idol.

I had to ask Jay what pay-per-post was. But, now that I know what it is, where do I sign up? LOL

I remember shortly after the first Bond movie,a friend of mine played in a charity football (soccer) game and told me that he saw Sean in the dressing room fixing his wig.
I'm no fan of all these dancing, skating and talent shows, but even I would have loved to have seen Heather 'showing her leg' in that way . :-)

Daniel Craig has beaten Sean Connery as my all time favourite 007. To me he is a walking dirty weekend!

As far as Heather Mills, I wish her neck would snap. She annoys me.
