The Emmyzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Well, that was three hours out of my life I'll never get back. Did you watch the Emmys? Weren't they boring?

As far as I'm concerned there was way too much of Conan O'Brien. But, I tend to think that ANY Conan O'Brien is too much, so what do I know?

There's something very wrong when the highlight of the Emmys is when Barry Manilow wins one in this day and age. Barry Manilow!! Actually, he's one of my personal favorites, but he beat out Colbert?????

See, this is what happens when something is turned over to a committee. Blue Ribbon Committee, indeed. Typical committee action was the nomination of Ellen Burstyn for her 14 second appearance in "Mrs. Harris". Now, there are several actresses I can think of who could have stolen the show in only 14 seconds. Katherine Hepburn, Bette Davis, Elizabeth Taylor, Meryl Street, even. But Ellen Burstyn? I don't know.

Did you see Calista "I am not anorexic" Flockhart? What, oh what, does Harrison Ford see in her? Maybe he just likes hugging a bag of bones.

The tribute to Aaron Spelling was touching. The camera found his widow, but where was Tori? Seems I read somewhere that she and her mother are feuding over his estate. Tori doesn't think he left her enough money, poor baby.

And, Charlie's Angels. I thought Kate Jackson was never going to shut up, and what a surprise that Farrah Fawcett managed to hold it together long enough to say a few words. It would have livened things up, don't you think if she had gotten incoherent like she does on talk shows?

The one bright spot, for me, was Hugh Laurie. He's the bomb! I kind of wish he would shave, though. He's purty as a hound dog, as they say around here.

All in all, this show was like a mashed potato sandwich. None of the women fell out of their dresses - for a minute there, I though Virginia Madsen was going to, but then I realized that her only problem was that she needed an underwire bra. No one who sags that much should wear a dress cut down to her navel. Has she no pride?

I was really hoping that The West Wing would win just one last time, but it was not to be. Honors went to Keifer Sutherland, and 24. I watched a couple of episodes, and just couldn't get into it, but it has been nominated so many times and lost out to The West Wing, I guess the Committee decided it was time. Sigh.

On a more positive note, mercifully, the show didn't run overtime.

Thanks for the "up close and personal" review Betty. Unlike many years past, I chose to pass watching this year. I watch little 'commercial' televison so I am pretty much clueless about most of the nominees. And...I am not a huge fan of Conan O'Brien.

Look forward to your next review!

Great review. I didn't watch it, my Sunday nights are dedicated to Midsomer Murders. But I really enjoyed your telling of the evening.

I didn't watch it either. I don't watch most of the shows that are nominated, so I had no idea who a lot of those people were. The only one I was interested in was Christopher Meloni for Law and Order SUV. I love him. OK, I lust after him, but it's almost the same. But I didn't care enough to watch the show. I would have liked to see Hugh Laurie win, too. And I kind of like the scruffy beard, but then, I usually do.

And new Midsomer Murders are coming in October! I can't wait!

Oh, and they said on the shows this morning that Tori Spelling was there, but she was on the opposite side of the aisle. Like we care.

An award ceremony for TELEVISION shows - don't you think they give themselves a bit too much importance?

I loved your "bag of bones" comment. Why do they think that boney look is attractive? Has a man ever been turned on by boney angles? Its the curves that get them!

Now, I've been thinking that Harrison Ford might love her because of who she is and in spite of what she looks like. Just as I'd hope that a man might love me without caring that I'm fat. It's the only way I can deal with it, the only way at all.
