Thoughts From A Scattered Mind

There are three billboards in White County advertising the Ku Klux Klan, in an effort to get people to join up. Heads are exploding all over the county. Of course, KKK headquarters are located right here in Boone County, I'm ashamed to say. It says something about the local people here that the clan has felt quite comfortable living here for many, many years.

I didn't think I was going to enjoy the Grammys, even before Whitney Houston died.  But, I decided to watch it anyway, until time for Downton Abbey.  To my surprise, I enjoyed it, especially the tribute to Glen Campbell. And, although everyone was shocked and saddened about Whitney, they didn't bring the whole show down with maudlin displays.

I still can't believe there's actually a band that calls themselves "Dead Mouse." Good grief.

And, speaking of Downton Abbey, I love, love, love that program. This week's episode was two hours long, and for a while there, it seemed they were wrapping up for the season, but, happily, they showed previews for next week's show.

I was sad to discover that one of my favorite British authors, Veronica Stallwood has decided to end her Kate Ivory series, set in Oxford.  However, I see she is developing another series, which I am anxiously awaiting.  I suppose I can understand that after some 14 years of writing about the same place and same main characters, a writer can simply run out of ideas, but I sure did like that series.  Fortunately, I have most of them in my book case, so I can go back and re-read them any time.

I saw an ad the other day for a Christian Dating Service called "Equally Yoked."  I wouldn't think that even the most zealous right-wing conservatives would want to be "yoked" to someone.  Surely, not even Rick Santorum would want to impose that on anyone.  Or would he?

-----

Stay tuned.

KKK billboards. How sad. How frustrating. How maddening.

Haven't heard from the KKK recently. I had hopes they were extinct. Sad to hear they are still alive and well.
Downton Abbey is new to me. I'll check it out.

KKK OMG White sheets and all that crap. It is my hope that is a group of old farts longing for the "good ol' days" and not really a threat. It truly angers me that there are still hanger-ons to such prejudice and stupidity.

I have just discovered the series Downton Abbey and am looking forward to the series. Wish I had seen the first year. It is a little difficult coming in on the second season.

MerCyn: It sure is.

Patti and Maria: It is on PBS and you can catch up at PBS.com. They have Season One on their live stream, as well as the first part of Season Two, I think.

Glad to know about DA season one being available. I just started watching.
Billboards?? Good god in heaven. That makes my stomach clench.

I love Downton Abbey, also, but I have a friend who thinks it is becoming a soap opera. She says she wishes they would just finalize their love lives and move on.

You can get the previous series on Net Flix if you have missed them.

Olga: How would you like to live next door to their headquarters? They even "adopted a highway" in our area, as though they are upstanding citizens.

Darlene: If it's a soap opera, so be it. It's a well-written, well-acted one I forgot about its being on Netflix, too. Thanks.

Maria: I don't think these Klan members are all that old. Unfortunately. They're living in another time. Sad, really.

According to Dictionary, to yoke means to "join together." Stronger words used in the definition include to "bind" or "tie." In Genesis 2:24 , the first husband and wife are described as being united and becoming "one flesh.by:christian marriage
